Each year, United Way selects and honors one nonprofit agency board as the Board of Year at its Night of a Thousand Stars Volunteer of the Year Awards Banquet.
This year, the hard-working Board of Directors of San Antonio Youth Centers (SAYC) was nominated to receive the award and won.
The Board of Directors at SAYC has been engaged in many ways over the years to bring SAYC from a tiny basement in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church wrestling with space and funding issues to a full-service nonprofit agency that aims to serve 1,600 youth annually from across San Antonio at ten locations.
SAYC is a 26-year old community organization that keeps San Antonio’s low-income children in school and helps young adults who have quit school gain a second chance through high-school credit recovery and workforce training. We support youth in highly distressed neighborhoods achieve life success through hard work, determination, and opportunities to excel.
Our mission is to develop the character, strengths, talents and skills of San Antonio’s high-risk urban youth through fun, safe experiences, positive learning environments, and holistic programs that inspire each individual to fulfill their potential personally and in the community.
Many thanks to all of you for your tireless commitment to our youth. It is because of your efforts that we have programs available that keep kids out of trouble and engaged in learning. Thank you for caring about kids!
