GOAL #1: Improve Educational Achievement
OBJECTIVES:
- Develop self-discipline and study habits
- Improve basic academic skills (STAAR scores, GPA)
- Improve educational achievement (Grade promotion and/or attainment of GED or H.S. diploma)
Short-Term Changes
- Knowledge/Awareness/Attitudes
- Increased knowledge and awareness of:
- Importance of education
- Specific subject matters
- Places and activities outside of their own neighboorhood
- Their own desire to explore and learn
- Their own desire to graduate from high school
- Future opportunities for higher education and employment
Medium-Term Changes
- Behaviors/Skills
- Improve attendance
- Pass STAAR
- Improve GPA
- Advancement to the next grade level
- Increased self-discipline and monitoring
Long-Term Changes
- Social Conditions:
- Young adults who have graduated from High School and have plans for higher education or vocational training

OBJECTIVES:
- Decrease or eliminate destructive behaviors
- Develop responsibility and respect/care about others
- Desire to contribute to one’s own community
- Develop leadership abilities

- Knowledge/Awareness/Attitudes
- Increased knowledge and awareness of:
- Personal responsibilities
- Importance of respecting and caring for others
- Importance of volunteerism
- One’s ability to lead
Medium-Term Changes
- Behaviors/Skills
- Decreased destructive behaviors such as tagging, bullying
- Increased participation in community and volunteer activities
- Increased ability to lead and mentor younger children
- Increased # of developmental assets
Long-Term Changes

- Young adults who are honest, responsible and upstanding community members

GOAL #3: Develop a Healthy Lifestyle
OBJECTIVES:
- Prevent youth from participating in gang activity, criminal activity, and other juvenile behaviors
- Engage in moderate to vigorous physical activity on a daily basis
- Be aware and knowledgeable about healthy nutrition in order to make healthy and nutritional choices
- Be knowledgeable of the dangers of smoking, alcohol, and drug use and abstain from their use
Short-Term Changes
- Knowledge/Awareness/Attitudes
- Decreased gang, criminal, and delinquent activity
- Increased knowledge and awareness of:
- Importance of exercise
- Importance of good nutrition and avoiding certain foods
- Importance of avoiding smoking, alcohol or drugs
Medium-Term Changes
- Behaviors/Skills
- BMI within healthy limits
- Choose healthy foods
- Abstaining from or decrease in smoking or the use of alcohol or drugs
- Increased number of developmental assets
Long-Term Changes
- Increased knowledge and awareness in:
- Young adults who are drug free, fit, have balanced diets, and do not smoke, drink in excess or use drugs, are free of gang and other criminal behavior
