Melissa is passionate about improving the lives of the most underserved children in our community and has shown her commitment throughout her career. She worked with and performed for children of all ages at the Magic Theatre, then shifted positions to raise money and develop an ongoing strategy to ensure the sustainability and success of the organization. She is a certified teacher through the Texas Education Agency and served as department head of a local high school theatre program. This invaluable time in the classroom inspired her to teach a broader scope to affect systematic change. She now happily serves as the Chief of Staff at SA Youth, where she supports the mission of helping young people achieve academic success, develop their character, and promote healthy lifestyles.
Additionally, she is committed to her own personal and professional development, completing the San Antonio Women's Chamber of Commerce's Transformational Leadership course and joining the advisory board of the Emerging Leaders Council of United Way. She also completed a Masters in Nonprofit Management from Our Lady of the Lake University.
She is a proud member of the Vistage Emerging Leaders group and is taking continuing education courses through the San Antonio Area Foundation's Management certification program provided by the University of Incarnate Word. In her free time, you can catch her on her bike, playing with her Schnoodle, Eva, or on stage at the Public Theatre.
Why do you work for SA Youth? Knowing you’re making a difference in a child’s life means knowing you’re making the world a better place. Children do not need to be at the mercy of their circumstances. SA Youth is a place where they can be inspired, encouraged, validated, and most importantly, enabled to succeed.
